Prior to forming Ascension, Mr. Wood had 15 years of workout experience, first with a regional bank in the 1980s, where he worked for eight years. Most of his time spent at Texas American Bank was dedicated to the resolution of problem loans secured by various property types across Texas. During the 1990s, Mr. Wood was a Vice President of American General, where he assembled and managed a $2.5 billion portfolio of Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) and Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) bonds. In addition, he headed the firm's commercial mortgage management group. The $3.7 billion portfolio consisted of mortgages secured by various commercial property types across the United States. In 2002, he founded Invest Wood Capital and completed over $15 billion of due diligence consulting for third-party lenders and investors. Mr. Wood has his BBA from Texas A&M University (Cum Laude) and MBA from the University of Texas. He is also a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Mr. Lawrence is a co-founder of Ascension and has more than 30 years of commercial real estate finance expertise, including debt, equity, structured finance, and loan servicing. During his career, Mr. Lawrence has held positions at First Interstate Bancorp and American General Real Estate Services, and has founded four successful companies, most notably Ascension and LMI Capital. Mr. Lawrence started LMI Capital, a Houston based boutique real estate capital advisory firm specializing in highly structured transactions, in 1999 and retired as Executive Director at the end of 2015. Under his direction, LMI Capital became a leading producer for multiple capital sources including commercial banks, agencies, and investment banks. From managing deal analytics to structuring the debt and equity to advising on acquisition strategy, Mr. Lawrence has a lengthy track record of success having closed more than 980 transactions with a total volume in excess of $6 billion. On the investment side, Mr. Lawrence has been responsible for the acquisition of more than 8,800 units across 35 transactions in markets throughout Texas. Mr. Lawrence is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with B.S. in Finance and a minor in Economics. He is a member of CCIM, National Multifamily Housing Council, and the Houston Apartment Association.
Mr. Crane has been with Ascension since 2017 and has over 30 years of commercial real estate finance, development, investment, and operations experience. He has held positions with Arthur Anderson & Company, JP Morgan Chase Bank, Legg Mason Wood Walker, CBRE and Allied Orion Group. His financing experience includes commercial real estate workouts, debt restructuring, originating construction project financing and originating permanent debt financing on various commercial property types. His development experience includes over $300 million of multifamily properties in nine projects containing over 2200 units, including ownership interests in seven multifamily partnerships. Mr. Crane is a graduate of Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business (Beta Gamma Sigma honors) with a BBA-Accounting and MBA-Finance, and he is a CPA registered in Texas. Mr. Crane has been an active member of the National Multi Housing Council, Houston Apartment Association, Urban Land Institute, Houston Real Estate Council and Association of Commercial Real Estate Professionals.
Mrs. Matthews has served as Ascension’s Controller since 2010. Her responsibilities include management of the corporate accounting staff, financial reporting to investors and lenders, cash management, vendor and utility contract negotiation, insurance policy management, and consulting with outside tax preparers and auditors. Prior to joining Ascension, Mrs. Matthews served as Assistant Controller for The Dinerstein Companies, Accounting Manager for LSR Management, and Senior Corporate Tax Advisor for Valhalla Advisors. She is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a BBA in both Economics and General Business.
Mr. Coker has more than 20 years of experience in the construction and telecommunications industries. Prior to joining Ascension, Mr. Coker was a Project Manager with Camp Construction Services and Operations Director for Crestmark Construction Services, both well-respected construction companies utilized by Ascension. Prior to joining the construction industry, Mr. Coker held several senior leadership positions in the telecommunications industry where he was instrumental in the success of seven start-up companies. This includes serving as President and Chief Operating Officer of Simple Communications, the first nationwide prepaid wireless company on a digital network. Mr. Coker is a graduate of Texas A&M University.
Ms. Choate has over twenty years of experience in the multifamily industry. She was previously a Regional Vice President with Tarantino Properties and prior to that worked for Greystone Asset Management where she was also a member of the Greystone Due Diligence Team. She has worked with a diverse client base, from private investors to lending institutions to institutional investors, and has experience with a wide range of asset classes including conventional, new construction lease-up, tax credit, senior/assisted and public housing. Additionally, she holds the following designations: CAPS, TCS, COS, HCCP, NCP, HCV.
Kimberly Box is a Regional Supervisor for Ascension with over twenty-four years of property management experience. Prior to joining the Ascension team, she worked with Harry Reed for two years, Greystar for twelve years, and Greystone Asset Management for five years. With Ascension she has received the following awards: Property Manager of the Year, Blue Star, and the President’s Award. She also holds a designation in CAPS.
Jennifer Doggett is a Regional Supervisor with over 13 years of progressive experience in the Multifamily Industry. Prior to joining the Ascension team, she worked with Knightvest Management, Resource Residential and Compass Rock/Tarantino. Her experience includes implement a positive company culture while branding uniformly an image companywide. Supervise multiples Apartment Complex; oversee fiscal accountability, market development, and personnel management of a multi-property portfolio. Worked closely with the Construction team through Renovation process. Created strategic Marketing programs and Resident Retention Programs. Assisted in developing annual budgets and consistently met goals set each quarter.
Mrs. Bryson has served as Ascension’s Director of Human Resources since 2010. She has more than 30 years of experience in office administration and human resource management for multifamily property companies. Prior to joining Ascension, she spent 28 years with Southwood Realty Company, managing human resources, accounts receivable and collections, rental application processing, and more as the company grew from a small, family-owned business with 250 rental units to a regional management company with more than 60 apartment communities and 20,000+ units.
Gabriela Iraheta is a highly motivated person that loves all things marketing offers. Her drive to think outside the box and explore new marketing initiatives is what she enjoys. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Marketing from the University of El Salvador. She holds numerous Google Certifications as well as growing web development skills, graphic design, and commercial photographer experience. Since 2012 she has been working as Marketing Director within various industries; creating and designing marketing campaigns, managing traditional and digital advertising on Google, Facebook, Amazon, and more. Gabriela joined the Ascension team in 2018 and has been focusing on the entire portfolio since.
